As a part of projecteducate, I have conducted a short series of interviews. I hope that these are informative and that they give some inside perspective into the doll world.
The first to have an interview with me is isoldel
1. Please introduce yourself.
Hi, I'm Stacy, aka Caelest or ElvenCrystaline. I'm 23, married and in the military. I'm the head administrator of DollingClub and I'm also an admin in Free-dAvatars.
2. When did you first discover dolling and how long have you been dolling for?
I first discovered dolling way back in late 2002 when I found Xandorra. I didn't get too involved in it since I was still in school. I've only recently became more active in 2008 and have been ever since. I made a dolling timeline to show my progress over the years as well.
3. What has kept you dolling for so long?
I just love doing it. Plain and simple. If you love to do something, you keep doing it.
4. What inspired you to start making your own bases?
I needed alternative poses for dolls like my Guild Wars Assassin. I found the stock user, AdorkaStock and asked her if I could use her stock outlines for my bases. She said yes and the Natural base came to be.
5. What is the most memorable change that you have witnessed in the dolling community?
The biggest change to the community was having our own subgallery here on dA. It really helped bring the dolling community to the rest of the art world. That and the traced anime bases being allowed as well.
6. How do you see dolling changing in the future?
I don't really see it changing much in the content itself. I think that the whole personal websites gig will become better as technology for them gets better. I can't wait to see someone make a completely javascript website with animations and whatnot. Gone will be the days of iframes, tables and div layers while Joomla and other website gizmos will take over! Just ask mariiiis-dolls!
7. What is one thing that you would want dollers as well as non-dolling artists to know about the doll world?
We are a very broad community with many different styles that will sometimes clash with each other. If you see a part that isn't what you particularly like, just look a little bit more before assuming we're all like that.
8. Is there a secret to your success as a doller?
The best way to be successful is to find your personal style and RUN with it! Don't conform yourself to be like others. Sure, it's a great way to practice certain styles but then you won't be different enough for people to recognize you.
9. Any future dolling plans that you wouldn’t mind sharing with us?
Well then it wouldn't be a secret surprise, now would it? I'm overhauling my Pixel Corner site. Be prepared for a whole new base set that is fashion/realism/pageantry orientated. It's going to be sexy and site exclusive so you won't see it here on dA! For you Twitter users, I have made an account that you can watch for my site updates.
Thank you so much for allowing me to interview you
